Ajmer is located in the state of Rajasthan, India, with the earliest settlement dating back to the 8th-9th century of the common era.

The Roman Catholic Mission Church of Ajmer, which was established in 1882, contributed immensely to the propagation of modern education in Ajmer. Education in early childhood/primary category exists mostly in the Montessori form,taking its roots from the laid down system by Rev Mother Mary Matilda, one of the earliest missionaries in Ajmer. Secondary school educational system tends to take a different outlook, as they exist in single gender and co-educational.

The district of Ajmer also have an array of distance educational centers. These distance educational centers cover a wide scope of study which includes management distance education, arts and media, engineering and computer science education.

However, despite these milestone achievements in the educational sector, some certain factors may tend to obliterate the progressive state of education in the Ajmer district. Cultural practices such as the purdah system, early marriage, prejudice and superstition against female education may halt the progress of events, if good measures are not set in place
